By Jules Albert III, Owner of Jaymar Construction LLC | Slidell, Louisiana When most people look at a large commercial building, they probably aren’t thinking about where the roof drains are located. They’re thinking about the building’s appearance, the parking situation, or whether the air conditioning inside is keeping up with the Louisiana heat. Roof...
Building a new house and adding onto an existing house might sound like two versions of the same project. They aren’t. With new construction, there is usually a clean starting point. Plans are developed, the site is prepared, the foundation goes in and construction moves forward from there. An addition starts with somebody saying something...
One thing I’ve learned after years in construction is that houses age a lot like people. They might still look pretty good from across the street, but every now and then they’ll remind everyone they’ve been around for a while. A little creak here, a faded spot there, maybe a few wrinkles around the trim....
A commercial roof may look simple from the parking lot. Flat surface. Some drains. A few air conditioning units. Maybe a vent or two. Maybe a mystery pipe nobody wants to claim. But underneath that surface is usually a lot more going on than most people realize. Commercial roofing is not just one big sheet...
Anyone who has spent time around construction knows that building projects involve a lot of moving parts. Lumber, concrete, electricians, plumbers, inspectors, permits, deliveries, weather forecasts, and about fifty other variables all have to line up at the right moment for a project to move forward smoothly. When everything runs according to plan, construction can...
When most people drive past a commercial construction site, attention usually goes straight to the building. Steel framing going up. Concrete trucks coming and going. Cranes lifting materials into the air. The building itself gets all the attention. What rarely gets noticed is everything that had to be figured out before the first shovel ever...
Choosing a wall system is one of those decisions that doesn’t look flashy on paper but ends up affecting everything that comes after it. Walls determine how a building stands up, how it handles weather, how comfortable it feels inside, and how much attention it needs over the years. In construction, walls aren’t just walls....
For a long time, metal buildings carried a very specific reputation. If someone said “metal building,” most people pictured a warehouse, a storage facility, or a place where forklifts go to live their best lives. Functional? Absolutely. Exciting? Not exactly. That reputation is officially outdated. Metal buildings have quietly evolved into some of the most...
By Jules Albert III, Owner of Jaymar Construction LLC – Slidell, Louisiana Metal buildings have come a long way from the plain steel barns most people picture when they hear the term. These days, metal-building systems are some of the most adaptable structures available, and they keep showing up in places folks never expect—warehouses, retail...
Older commercial buildings carry a certain charm. Some have brickwork that has survived hurricanes, economic cycles, and trends that probably should have stayed in the 1980s. Others come with stories—“This used to be a hardware store,” or “My uncle ran a print shop here back in the day.” Many of these structures sit quietly, waiting...
